12 Sacramento area back-to-school backpack drives

Whether residents are interested in helping their community or letting their community help them, there are plenty back-to-school backpack drives to help neighbors, friends, and other Sacramentans.

Back-to-school season is coming up for students in the area. Some students have even already started.

Whether residents are interested in helping their community or letting their community help them, there are plenty back-to-school backpack drives to help neighbors, friends, and other Sacramentans.

1. Back to School Event, Twin Lakes Food Bank

  • Gives away backpacks to under-resourced students in the community
  • Event has music, magician, FCUSD staff, Folsom police officers, free haircuts, and free backpacks
  • Encourages donations. Collecting supplies until July 26.

2. Backpack Drive, Corvettes of Elk Grove

  • Seeking school supplies and backpack donations.
  • Donations can be made at 9265 Mantle Ct. in Elk Grove before the start of school.

3. School Supplies and Backpack Drive, Friends of Folsom

  • Seeking donations of school supplies like backpacks, pencil sharpeners, and colored pencils.
  • Donations can be made at the Folsom Fraternal Order of Eagles #929 Lodge on Monday and Wednesday through Saturday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. until August 3.
  • Donations will fill the needs of the STARS program and Mercy Housing After School Program. Remaining items will go to Twin Lakes Food Bank.

4. Backpack Drive, District Church

  • Seeking donations of school supplies and backpacks
  • Donations of backpacks filled with supplies can be made to the Church office, located 7000 Rossmore Ln. in El Dorado Hills, on Sundays or during the week from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Donations will go to Grace City Center and City of Refuge in Sacramento. More info, click here.

5. Back to School Drive, Dimple Records

  • School supplies can be dropped off at Razorrection Barbershop, located 5522 Garfield Ave. in Sacramento.
  • Event occurs August 11 at Dimple Records, located 2433 Arden Way in Sacramento from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

6. Backpack Drive, The Life Center

  • Seeking backpacks and school supplies
  • Will be accepting donations at 1400 Lead Hill Rd. in Roseville at 9 a.m. on July 21.
  • Donations will go to kids in the church and those in Orangevale, Fair Oaks, and the greater San Juan Unified School District. More info, click here.

7. Backpack Drive, Moore’s Martial Arts of Sacramento

  • Seeking backpacks for kids in need.
  • Donations accepted until August 5. More information, click here.

8. Sacramento Children’s Home

  • Seeking backpack donations and school supplies
  • Donations appreciated by August 1, but accepted through September 7
  • Drop-off at Sacramento Children’s Home, 2750 Sutterville Rd. in Sacramento from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

9. Back to School Bash, My Beauty Bar, Staples, and Sac Black Biz

  • Distributing schools supplies and will provide music, face painting, and bounce house
  • Event assists local students from grades 3 through 12.
  • Event occurs on July 22 at Morse Park, located 5540 Bellaterra Drive in Elk Grove from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.

10. Backpack Drive 2018, Bayside Church

  • Seeking backpacks and school supplies for kids at Nicholas Elementary and Leataata Floyd Elementary Schools for 1st through 8th grade.
  • Drop-off donations accepted at the Welcome Center during Wednesday, Thursday, or Sunday Services.

11. Back 2 School Backpack Drive, Sacramento Realtist Association

  • Drive supporting St. John’s Program for Real Change, and Seeking backpacks with supplies.
  • Supporting homeless children in grades K-12.
  • Drop-off located at Goree & Thompson Real Estate, Inc., located at 8211 Bruceville Rd. Suit 145 in Sacramento.

12. Back-to-School Health and Wellness Fair, Assemblymember Jim Cooper

  • Event includes family activities and information on community issues
  • Free backpacks, school supplies, dental screenings, haircuts, immunization vouchers, sports physicals, jump ropes, and water bottles for students in K-8th grade.
  • Event occurs August 4 at Luther Burbank High School, located 3500 Florin Rd. in Sacramento from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
