The City of Tracy has named Captain Alex Neicu as the Interim Police Chief.

The Tracy Police Department is moving forward in a new direction after abruptly terminating Chief Larry Esquivel last week.

The City of Tracy has named Captain Alex Neicu as the Interim Police Chief as they work to find Esquivel’s replacement.

Neicu has hit the ground running by drafting a 30-60-90 day plan as a strategy to better target crime based off of recent crime statistics.

The plan is said to outline how current resources are utilized.

Neicu says it also includes an, “immediate implementation of programs such as an augmented Traffic Unit with focused enforcement operations around schools and high accident areas, as well as increasing the use of Bike Patrol Officers in the downtown area to address quality of life issues.”

Part of this plan includes an expansion of its Special Enforcement Team, which they say will allow faster responses to trends they find through crime analysis.

“We are pivoting our focus and operations based on the crime stats we’re witnessing in Tracy,” said Interim Chief Neicu. “This effort will involve collaboration with residents, business owners and community organizations in order for it to be effective. Ultimately, the goal is to fulfill our mission of ensuring a safe environment in our community while enhancing the quality of life in Tracy.”
