Former Folsom HS football coach to be named new Sac State football coach

Former Folsom High School head coach Troy Taylor will be the new head coach for the Sacramento State Hornets football team, sources tell ABC10's Sean Cunningham.

Former Folsom High School head coach Troy Taylor will be the new head coach for the Sacramento State Hornets football team, sources tell ABC10's Sean Cunningham.

Taylor, a Sacramento native, said he's "thrilled" for the opportunity.

"My family and I are excited to move back home and take on the challenge of building the Hornet Football program into something the city can be very proud," Taylor said.

Mark Orr, the Sac State Director of Athletics, announced the hiring Monday morning weeks after firing former coach Jody Sears after 5 seasons.

"After a thorough search, I am thrilled to select Troy Taylor to serve as the next head football coach of the Hornets," Orr said. "He's an innovative play caller who's had success at all levels of football. Troy is one of the best quarterbacks to come out of the Sacramento region and has become a nationally respected coach. I am excited to see him help take the program to new heights."

Taylor was the previously the Athletic Director and assistant coach at Christian Brother's High School, then the co-head coach at Folsom High School before heading to the college ranks at Eastern Washington University.

He was most recently the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at the University of Utah.
