Officials are searching for a man who walked away from an Alternative Custody Program (ACP) in Salinas, said the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR).
On Monday, around 12:30 p.m., 24-year-old Jesus Perez met with his parole agent on Victor Street at the Salinas Parole Unit and was told to wait in the lobby. Perez instead left the building and removed his electronic monitoring device, which was found in the area.
CDRC agents were notified to search for Perez and local law enforcement, including the CHP, have been made aware.
He's described as an Hispanic man who's 5-foot-9, 241 pounds with brown hair and eyes. He's serving a five-year sentence -- after being taken in by the CDRC on Oct. 17, 2016 from Monterey County -- for owning and operating a chop shop and possession of controlled substances while armed with a loaded firearm.
The ACP is a voluntary program for eligible offenders allowing them to serve up to the final 12 months of their sentence in the community instead of prison. Perez has been a member of the program since Sep. 2017 and was scheduled for release in April 2018.
