The El Dorado Union High School District says that there have been three cases of viral meningitis at one of their high schools.

The district confirmed Monday with the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) that all three students attend Ponderosa High School.

"It is very important for anyone with the symptoms of fever, headache, stiff neck, light sensitivity, lethargy and/or nausea/vomiting to see a healthcare provider right away," said Stephen Wehr, superintendent of the district, in a statement.

Viral meningitis is a common disease that is typically less severe than bacterial meningitis and most people tend to get better in a week, on their own without treatment.

They're doing an additional cleaning at Ponderosa, which is part of the protocol and they will continue monitoring the situation.

The CDPH will answer any questions you have regarding the viral meningitis situation, you can call (530)-621-6320.
