New legislation making its way through California's Senate would keep cities from banning marijuana deliveries.
The blunt effort would essentially allow marijuana delivery statewide. And that's important because local bans encourage black market cannabis deliveries.
It's a safety concern too.
"Realistically, by outlawing delivery services, you're not gonna really get rid of them, you're just going to push them underground," said Shayna Schonauer, regional manager at cannabis dispensary RCP Sacramento. "Especially people that are using for medical purposes, it's just something that wouldn't be really safe for them to do."
According to the bill's analysis, 75 percent of local governments in California currently have some sort of marijuana delivery ban.
