Sacramento Kings land No. 2 pick in NBA Draft after moving up in lottery

The Kings went into the night having an 18.3 percent chance to land a top-three pick and 6 percent chance at owning the No. 2 selection, according to Tankathon.

The Sacramento Kings will have the No. 2 pick in the 2018 NBA Draft after moving up in the NBA draft lottery Tuesday night in Chicago.

The Kings were originally slated to pick No. 7, before moving up to No. 2. The Kings went into the night having an 18.3 percent chance to land a top-three pick and 6 percent chance at owning the No. 2 selection, according to Tankathon.

"We couldn’t be more thrilled to secure the second selection in this deep and talented draft class," General Manager Vlade Divac said in a statement. "We are well positioned moving ahead and look forward to continuing to develop and improve our team.”

This marks the second straight season in which the Kings moved up into the top three of the NBA Draft. However, last season when the team moved up from No. 8 to No. 3, they swapped picks with the Philadelphia 76ers for the fifth pick due to a previously agreed upon trade.

Last season's No. 5 pick, De'Aaron Fox, was the team's draft lottery representative in Chicago.
